Red meat linked to breast cancer increase

A study published today in the International Journal of Cancer has examined the link between meat consumption and cooking practices. The study found that red meat consumption increases the risk of breast cancer. Dr Giota Mitrou, Director of Research at World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF) comments on the study, cancer and nutrition more broadly.

As a mastologist, a breast cancer health doctor, I closely follow the challenges that breast cancer patients face on a daily basis in Brazil. The public health system does not always facilitate a fast diagnosis process and patients in the metastatic stage often do not have adequate access to medication. A lack of cancer registration and consistent data on the disease further compound the situation of cancer patients.

Cancer professionals working in basic, clinical or public health research who wish to perform a 3 month international collaborative visit are invited to apply to the 2019 Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International (YY) study grant call which opens on Friday, July 26 2019. The submission deadline is Monday, October 28 2019.
