Virtual Dialogue: Addressing AMR for better cancer care – the importance of collaboration towards one goal

The emergence of drug-resistant pathogens is a grave threat to cancer care.  There is an urgent need to address the critical issue of AMR as it will roll back progress made to date in modern medicines, including cancer treatment. The time to act is now.

The second High Level Meeting (HLM) on AMR is taking place at the UN General Assembly in September this year. All the key stakeholders must come together to accelerate progress and implement actions to address AMR at national, regional and global levels.  AMR is a complex and widespread issue that requires immediate and collaborative action. The UNHLM in September must result in clear and measurable action with adequate funding and concrete next steps.

In this Virtual Dialogue UICC aims to highlight the importance of collaboration in addressing AMR, and particularly:

• The role of patient organisations in advocacy for accelerated action on AMR and the importance of civil society as a whole in the AMR response via a one health approach.
• The importance of multisectoral collaboration in addressing AMR for better cancer care, involving the health work force, policymakers, and civil society.
