Virtual Dialogue: Access to medicines

The ATOM Coalition addresses key issues that impact the ability of countries and patients to access life-saving cancer diagnostics and medicines.

Marking two years in existence, UICC took this opportunity to give members an overview of the ATOM Coalition's latest achievements, including how UICC members can further improve access to quality-assured essential cancer medicines and diagnostics in their respective countries.

This Virtual Dialogue was held in collaboration with IDA Foundation, an ATOM Coalition partner, and aimed to describe concrete pathways that can be used today to broaden access to innovative and generic cancer medicines, while tackling regulatory hurdles. IDA Foundation plays a crucial role in access to medicines, supplying essential medicines and medical supplies to over 130 low- and middle-income countries. Through their NCDconnect online procurement platform, they offer a range of chemotherapy agents and targeted therapies, as well as diagnostic tools and medical supplies. Governments, NGOs, and healthcare providers in eligible countries can register on NCDconnect and gain access to these affordable quality-assured medicines. The Virtual Dialogue provided an overview of the ATOM Coalition access pathways with a spotlight on those powered by IDA Foundation, available medicines, who can use it and how.

UICC members had the opportunity to ask questions on how to enable access to these cancer medicines in their own countries and provide input on crucial medicines and diagnostics.
