The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) are pleased to announce the award of the UICC-IARC Development Fellowship of a value of USD 10,000 to:

Dr Oresto Michael Munishi, Director of the Kilimanjaro Cancer Registry, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, Moshi, United Republic of Tanzania

Project: Evaluating nutritional, behavioral, and environmental patterns amongst patients with esophageal cancer in two regions of Tanzania: An exploratory case-control study

The UICC-IARC Development Fellowship is a new initiative that builds on established programmes of both organisations and reiterate their joint commitment to promote training in cancer in low- and middle-income countries.

The aim of the UICC-IARC Development Fellowship is to allow each year for one of the most promising participants of the IARC Summer School to return to IARC and spend a period of up to three months integrated in one of the IARC Groups to receive further training in all areas of research and/or to set up a research collaboration.

Eligibility: available to cancer registry staff, health workers, health-related professionals and post-graduate students interested in initiating or pursuing work on cancer epidemiology and related disciplines. Priority is given to applicants from countries in greatest need of developing human resources in the area of cancer epidemiology and cancer registration.

Applicants will be selected among the IARC Summer School program attendees.

The UICC-IARC Development Fellowship is funded by the UICC through the UICC International Cancer Technology Transfer Fellowship scheme.
