Journal of Global Oncology publishes first articles and announces Editorial Fellowship

It is projected that 70% of all cancer-related deaths will occur in low- and middle income countries by 2030. The open-access, online-only Journal of Global Oncology (JGO) will provide a new platform for sharing innovations, best practice, and programmatic success in cancer control in settings with limited healthcare resources.

Header Paragraph

JGO is the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated solely to this area of research. The first articles were published on 23 September 2015 and cover the wide field of cancer care, from an overview of cancer care resources in Africa, to themes from clinical practice like the multi-centre trial from India about the concurrent chemoradiation for cancer of the cervix. Please visit the Journal's website to read more about cancer care and care delivery in resource-poor settings.

The Journal of Global Oncology (JGO) is a project in partnership between UICC and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to provide a new channel of communication for the global cancer community. The partnership between ASCO, which boasts more than 35,000 members around the world, and UICC, whose membership represents more than 900 organisations in 155 countries, will extend the reach of the Journal to a broad international audience. ASCO and UICC will work together to solicit high-quality original research, secure funding, and promote the Journal to their respective networks

"We welcome this newest collaboration in our long and successful partnership with ASCO. The Journal of Global Oncology will rapidly become a key communication platform for cancer researchers and healthcare providers, policy-makers and advocates working to improve cancer control and address inequities in low-and middle income countries" said Professor Tezer Kutluk, President of UICC. The editor-in-chief of the bi-monthly released journal is David Kerr, MD, DSc, Professor of Cancer Medicine, Oxford, past-president of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and co-founder of Africa Oxford Cancer Foundation (AfrOx).

The JGO Editorial Fellowship is designed to introduce participants to the peer review, editing and publishing of medical research manuscripts in journals. The program will give participants experience that will enhance their own research career in oncology and in scientific publishing, and will develop skills necessary to eventually contribute to the journal as an editor or editorial board member in the future. Applications are open till December 15 2015

We invite all our partners and interested researchers to not only subscribe to JGO but also to promote this new platform which will become increasingly important in the future. Please note that the article processing fees will be waived until June 2016 and article types may span from original reports and reviews to commentaries, correspondence, special articles, case reports and editorials. Articles can be submitted here. The JGO team will apply for early indexing in MEDLINE with the goal of making all articles available on the National Library of the Medicine PubMed site.

The Journal of Global Oncology is funded through the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology with the support of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Novartis Oncology.
