Astellas co-sponsors C3 Prize for cancer care innovations

27 April 2016 - UICC partner Astellas Pharma Inc. announced today that its subsidiary, Astellas US LLC is co-sponsoring the C3 (Changing Cancer Care) Prize with the World Medical Innovation Forum, Stanford Medicine X and MATTER.

Header Paragraph

The C3 Prize is a challenge aimed at inspiring non-medicine and non-treatment innovation to change cancer care for patients and their loved ones as they navigate the cancer care continuum. The cancer care continuum encompasses all phases of care during illness, from diagnosis to the end of life.[i]

The Astellas Oncology C3 Prize is looking for new innovations that address a major issue in cancer care including, but not limited to, at least one of the following areas:

  • Navigation – Innovative tools, methods or processes are needed to help guide patients living with cancer and their loved ones through the healthcare system and to reduce the burden of decision making, so that patients are able to better focus on their personal health.
  • Adherence – Innovative tools, methods or processes are needed to help patients living with cancer be more successful in adhering to a treatment plan and to help increase medication compliance.
  • Care Coordination – Innovative tools, methods or processes are needed to provide clarity and ease to patients living with cancer and caregivers around improving how care is networked, coordinated and delivered.
  • Survivorship – Innovative tools, methods or processes are needed to develop support systems for patients, caregivers and others impacted by cancer as more people live longer with the disease or live longer cancer-free.

Entrants should let us know what they think the biggest problem in cancer care is, their solution to addressing the issue and the potential impact their solution has on the cancer community. A total of $100,000 in grants will be awarded to three C3 Prize winners*, along with mentorship and access to the entrepreneurship community to help bring the best and brightest ideas to life.

While the C3 Prize selection will be judged in the United States according to the official rules, the application process is open to other markets on its official website. The regulations and laws of the United States apply to the C3 Prize. For more information, visit www.C3Prize.com.
